Youth is the overflowing passion and vitality, the brightest color in the history scroll. The performance of the original musical “100 Years of Youth”, produced by Frontier Culture Group and created by its subsidiary Phantasy Star Entertainment, was a great success!

As an outstanding play of the Beijing Municipal Federation of Literary and Artistic Creation Support Special Funds Project, “A Hundred Years of Youth” combines advanced digital technology and creative design of choreography and multimedia with the advantages of vocal storytelling and artistry of musicals, presenting a three-dimensional immersive performance of the song of youth that took place in Beijing a hundred years ago in front of the audience of the capital city.

Youth is a power and a better interpretation of oneself. The three progressive songs “Lying”, “Backward Road” and “Common Road” start the brotherly confrontation between the elder brother Jiang Mushou and the younger brother Jiang Muge. Along with the cumulative emotions of the songs, it evokes the sincere cry of “Long Live Youth” during the curtain call. It is also the creative team's definition of youth to respond to individual awakening with the ideal song of youth and group awakening with the unique labor song of the era. Our youth, which has no place to rest, is bound to be as bright and brilliant as the sunshine!

The purpose of this music creation is to make the music of the musical popular and singable. With a new music production concept to create 20 original songs, the libretto more service to the interpretation of the character's emotions. The music is customized for the characters to give them a soul. With the movie patch creation concept, the singing, lines and the soundtrack are seamlessly integrated.

The orchestration adopts a combination of electronic, rock and orchestral music, highlighting the heaviness and precipitation of the era's background and the outburst of emotions with a big orchestra, supplemented by electronic interpretation of youthful fervor, showing the high spirits of a generation of young people rising up for their ideals. The climax of the play is ushered in by the song “My World”, which fully portrays the moment when the main character, Jiang Muge, finds his way forward between his own obstacles and the struggle of his ideals and finally realizes his awakening.

The dance of this play incorporates elements of modern dance, jazz dance, street dance, etc., and unites the rhythms of youth in a more modern and dynamic group dance. The choreography with a sense of flow also adds a unique temperament to the appreciation of the whole play, making it a highlight of the show.

The creative team took the expression of historicity and the transformation of time and space as the focus of the lighting presentation. The uniform RGBW color mixing effect of CKC-Wash ZB19 (Shake Dye 1940) was used to create a vintage tone to shape the historical sense of the era, and the contrast between cold and warm, and the emphasis on the area to form a strong visual impact, rendering different atmospheres and emotions. The use of side backlighting, high side and strong side light expresses the vigor and power of youth.

The lighting design is integrated with the choreography, and the lighting characteristics of different scenes restore the real atmosphere of each scene, bringing the audience a sense of immersion. The light from the prison window through the railing, the rain of bullets in the war, whether as a background rendering, or at the critical moment of the explosion, the clever use of lighting with an imperceptible sense of reality will be the audience into it, and constantly triggered the resonance of emotions.

The choreography style of the whole production is a modern industrial style, combined with lighting and multimedia, to create a visual presentation of film and television with the artistic expression of white space, which retains the sense of the era and reduces the heaviness of history at the same time. A number of different steel frame modules, through different combinations such as moving and assembling, run through the entire stage space, providing multi-level performance space for the actors. The combination of the mobile scenery piece and the main vehicle platform simultaneously meets the demand for complex and minimalist stage space, with multi-space and multi-level changes. The lighting structure beams are integrated into the choreography design, and the up and down matrix rises and shifts to enhance the visual effect of the stage and create the depth and retro feeling of the scene.

Multimedia presentation combined with music and plot becomes a powerful aid to storytelling. Using images to create time and space interlacing and the inner world of the characters, the emotions are visualized, bringing a film and television immersive viewing experience. The combination of multimedia and traditional choreography maximizes the effect of naked eye 3D. When the scattered text surrounds the starry river, the lead blocks soar into the air with the music, and the inspiring slogans appear in three dimensions, the audience feels as if they are in the midst of it, and feels the unprecedented shocking audio-visual experience.
